How To Draw Your Future

How To Draw Your Future

By Guest Blogger Heather Matthews

Have you ever thought about the kind of future you want, but can’t seem to make it happen?

Do you feel like you could do more in your life, but there’s something stopping you?

A lot of people find themselves in the same frustrating situation. But there is a way out, and it’s not as complicated as you might think.

What if someone said that you could literally draw any future you want- and make it a reality?

Sounds a little “out there”, doesn’t it? You can’t transform your life just like that, can you?

Think again.

Patti Dobrowolski, a writer and business consultant, did an eye-opening TED talk on this very topic.

Watch the video here…

According to Patti, the power of visualization can help you blast through those hurdles holding you back from success.

She opened her talk with the following points:

  • People think about the future but never act on it
  • She cited the odds of making your dreams happen (they’re against you)
  • Our mental habits keep us from making change

So Patti said, “How can I make it happen?” as if she was asking herself that question.

For a lot of folks, this is the biggest obstacle to their success. The simple act of getting started can be a monumental struggle in itself.

Chances are you’ve tried to embark on some ambitious project yourself. For one reason or another, you just couldn’t get it off the ground.

So you end up feeling like you’re living a mediocre version of yourself who can’t get to the next level. It’s the worst feeling in the world.

But Patti believes she’s found the formula to breaking that invisible barrier to greater prosperity.

According to her, you can train your brain to change your life. She discussed the following:

  • The right image can push people into action
  • Coming up with your own image can trick your brain into changing your behavior
  • The secret is to draw an image of your current state AND your desired future, side by side
  • This stimulates your brain and pushes you into action

You might be thinking, “How will drawing help me get things done?”

Patti says that by contemplating on what you drew, you’ll figure out what to do.

Once you do this straightforward exercise, your brain will kickstart the process of change in your life. The mind has a way of putting the pieces together and “serve you up” the ways to achieve your goals.

In a nutshell, here are the steps of that mental process:

– See your dream

– Believe in your dream

– Act on your dream

But why is this process so effective in making your dreams come true? Well, the human brain has the ability to guess the steps needed to go from point A to B.

So, with the proper visualization techniques, your mind will fill in the gaps between your current and future state. And from there you’ll start doing the things that will take you closer to your dream.

After you go through this, Patti says, “Suddenly, you have a roadmap for change.”
